The Planning and Structure Committee is charged with surveying the membership to assess the needs of members, gathering opinions and proposals regarding how the Society might better serve the membership, preparing an annual report for the Executive Committee which summarizes both short-term and long-terms issues of concern to the membership, and making specific recommendations or changes in the structure and function of the Society and the Society’s activities.

The Scientific Affairs Committee is responsible for fostering the scientific foundations of the Society, and for promoting the interests of the Society in matters of scientific practice. In addition, the committee is charged with soliciting nominations and recommending recipients to the Executive Committee for the Society's awards for Distinguished Scientific Research and Early Career Contribution. There is no explicit schedule for the making of these awards. The recipients of these awards will be determined by an affirmative vote of two-thirds of the members of the Executive Committee.

The Policy and Professional Affairs Committee is responsible for bringing the knowledge and skills of consumer psychologists to bear on social and public policy issues, and to promote the interest of the Society in matters of professional practice. In addition, the committee is charged with soliciting nominations and recommending recipients to the Executive Committee for the Society's award for Distinguished Professional Contribution. The Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee enhances scientific understanding of culture and ethnicity by fostering communication, coordination, and interaction among all Society members, both minority and non-minority, with an interest in ethnic minority research. This will be accomplished through network building and performing liaison functions. Also, the committee will play a key role in shaping policies and key issues of the Society involving ethnic minority research and the professional development of ethnic minority members.

The Education and Training Committee engages in activities designed to foster the next generation of consumer psychologists. Among its activities are coordination of the prestigious SCP-Dissertation Proposal Competition and the Best Student Paper Award for the annual winter conference. In addition, the committee gathers information of interest to the Society related to graduate education and careers in consumer psychology.

The Newsletter Committee is responsible for publishing and distributing a quarterly issue of the Society’s newsletter, The Communicator, that contains information of interest and relevance to the Society’s membership.
